Client project — Youth soccer club redesign

MD Fusion Soccer

A ground-up redesign of a Maryland youth soccer club's outdated Wix site, with a filterable team directory and a tryout pipeline into Google Sheets.

Visit live site

Overview

MD Fusion Soccer runs competitive and development teams for boys and girls, ages 7 through high school, across four Maryland communities. Its old Wix site was badly out of date: team pages still read "Fall 2017," season pages had been copied over and over, and coach profiles were mostly logo placeholders.

The challenge

Families couldn't easily tell which team fit their player or how to try out, and the site was cramped on mobile, where most parents browse. The club needed a modern site that kept its mission and brand, made every team easy to find, and turned tryout interest into requests staff could act on right away.

The solution

The site was rebuilt from scratch on the club's existing content and brand. Stale season pages became one Programs section, every team got a filterable directory with real photos, and a tryout flow sends each request into an organized Google Sheet while emailing both the family and staff.

Product visuals

Homepage Hero

A full-screen hero over background match footage, with the club's mission and a tryout call to action up front.

Find Your Team

A homepage shortcut where parents pick boys or girls and an age group, then jump straight to the matching teams.

Teams Directory

Each team card shows a real team photo, age group, league, and a tryout button, with filters to narrow the list.

Core capabilities

Filterable Team Directory

All 21 boys and girls teams on one page with real team photos, filterable by player group, age group, and league, plus a birth-year chart so parents can find their age group.

Tryout Request Flow

Parents submit one form with player and contact details. The player's age group is worked out from their birth date automatically, and PlayMetrics stays available as a second route.

Google Sheets Tryout Tracker

Every request lands in a master tab and its own age-group tab, each with an auto-built dashboard breaking requests down by gender and level. No separate admin panel needed.

Automated Email Confirmations

Tryout requests and contact form messages each trigger a branded confirmation to the family and a notification to club staff through Resend.

Implementation

Every code change ships to production automatically. Push to main, Vercel picks it up, builds the Next.js app, and mdfusionsoccer.com updates in under a minute. No manual deploys, no downtime.

Technical architecture

Google Sheets API

A service-account integration appends each tryout request to a master tab and its age-group tab, creating and formatting new tabs and dashboards automatically as requests come in.

Resend

Sends transactional email for tryout requests and contact messages, with a confirmation to the family and a notification to staff from one branded HTML template.

Legacy URL Redirects

All 17 old Wix URLs (season pages, boys and girls teams, the tryout form) permanently redirect to their new pages, so existing links and search rankings carry over.

Vercel — CI/CD

mdfusionsoccer.com moved off Wix onto Vercel's edge network, with every push to main triggering an automatic production build and zero-downtime deploy.

Outcome

The redesigned site is live at mdfusionsoccer.com and has fully replaced the Wix build. Old links redirect to their new pages, tryout requests sort themselves into a self-updating Google Sheets tracker, and confirmation emails go out automatically on every submission.
